Privacy Policy

GazetteGo (“GazetteGo,” “we,” “us”) is a local community service for Manchester, Missouri. This policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. We designed the product to collect as little as possible and to never expose your exact home location to other residents.
Information we collect
- Account: your email address and first name (we sign you in with an emailed magic link — we do not store a password).
- Home location: the address you provide is geocoded to a precise latitude/longitude that we store to show you what’s nearby. We never display your exact point to other residents — only approximate distance and a general area name.
- Content you post: marketplace listings, events, wants, neighbor posts, town concerns, notices, and any photos you upload. Photos have their embedded metadata (including any GPS/EXIF data) stripped on our server before storage.
- Payments: if you buy or sell, payments are processed by Stripe. We store transaction records (amount, status, Stripe identifiers) but never your card number or bank details — those go directly to Stripe.
- Usage & device: basic technical data (IP address, request logs) needed to operate and secure the service.
How we use your information
- To show you nearby, relevant local content and to deliver the features you use.
- To send transactional and (if you opt in) digest emails, such as the daily/weekend Edition. You can unsubscribe anytime.
- To process payments between residents and to keep records for disputes and refunds.
- To moderate content, keep the community safe, and prevent abuse.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share behavioral data with advertisers.
Who we share it with
We share data only with service providers that help us run GazetteGo, under contract and only for that purpose:
- Stripe — payments and payouts.
- Our hosting, database, file storage, email delivery, and address-verification providers.
- Law enforcement or others when required by law, or to protect safety.
Content you post publicly (e.g. a marketplace listing) is visible to other residents by design; that is not “sharing” in the sense above.
Data retention
We keep your account and content while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data and your home location, and de-identify or remove your content, except where we must retain certain records (for example, payment/transaction records for legal, tax, and dispute purposes). [Review with counsel] the exact retention windows (especially for raw addresses and payment records) should be finalized with legal and tax advice.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to opt out of certain processing (for example, under the California CCPA/CPRA and the EU/UK GDPR). You can update your location and preferences in your profile, unsubscribe from emails from any email or your profile, and request access or deletion by contacting us. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. [Review with counsel] jurisdiction-specific disclosures and the verified-request process should be confirmed by a lawyer.
Children
GazetteGo is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Security
We use industry-standard measures — encrypted connections, hashed session tokens, server-side access controls, and audit logging — to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep yours safe.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy; we’ll revise the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, notify you.
